This is something to do with Safari-specific css since I don't see this effect in Firefox. I think the animation / fading effect means that the <li> appears and then fades out, instead of staying hidden. Couldn't track this down I'm afraid...

I tracked it down. Idiotic proprietary webkit effect that was being applied globally. I have thrown my bolt of thunder down on the script menu and now it is fixed. Finally.
