Bug: Keyboard navigation does not work with in browser

In the middle pane containing thumbnails, it's possible to select an image using the mouse, and then to select multiple images using the shift key. However, I can't use the cursor keys to move the selection to another image, and I can't use the shift key to extend the selection. It would be ideal if the user could move and extend the selection using the same keyboard controls as for e.g. excel.

Also note that selection extension does not work correctly for mouse selection either, as shown in the attached images. If an image is selected and then shift-click is used to extend the selection, this selects in a rectangular region. However, it should wrap around given that the images are wrapped in this display--as shown in the second image.

For plate thumbnails shown in a grid mimicking the plate layout, rectangular selection is probably appropriate. However for datasets where this is not the case, it's not appropriate. Example: Make a rectangular selection and then resize the middle pane; the selection is then stair-stepped. It should select all images from the first to the last selected.
