Utilising the search Tab

Images Tab does not work well for large number of images so cannot really be used.
It will good to be able to combine history (of import, etc) + calendar + images tab into one ueber-panel. A zest of something like the trac timeline might be good to add

Investigation required.

• Outstanding work to be scheduled after 4.3 release.
• This will continue to be ongoing work but will need a design review once the collection of ideas have been gathered.

• Given the discussion in the usability meeting on the 12th Jan 2012 the direction of the work will now look forward to incorporating a broader scope within the context of searching. Which the calendar work already indirectly part of but could be made more powerful with the full integration of metadata searching.

• The other point that will be taken into account is in exploring conceptually how the metadata can be searched so a scientist/microscope manager might search the data and how this might help inform the infrastructure for searching.

• The conclusion for the work is that for key requirement identified for Calendar functionality is that it will move forward adopting the model of the event driven feed to manage the user history.

• This is to prevent the requirements for the calendar functionality of becoming over complex and over bloated. This is due to the functionality of the traditional calendar. In the inclusion of the traditional calendar it introduces the problem of dealing with the use for planning daily schedule and for planning the next few months. This is not required for the calendar functionality.

• Based on this the web mobile application can be used to explore the functionality. The ticket has been created #4425 (Update gretzky with webmobile) to allow the user testing with the mobile client to explore the feedback interface.

Update

• Task #4687 is now being used to understand and question the role of search. The current role of the calendar view is in effect a subsection to providing a more powerful and effective search and so the aim is to understand how the current calendar functionality can be integrated into search.
