From the following team discussion in
(http://www.openmicroscopy.org/site/community/minutes/conference-calls/2010/2010-12-09-thursday-meeting) the work needs to begin to outline a strategy for providing updates.

A single way needs to be used to converse with scientists? i.e Twitter. This needs to be a single authorititative statement and dependable.

The works needs to further investigate a range of options such as:

  • A webstart page as authoritative place to get the clients?

i.e. http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1070

  • Office/open open updates.
  • OS systems updates.

The development and users will have different ways of communicating version and the work needs to be able to cover this so that a clearer picture can be formed.

In a discussion with Jonah he explained his own scenario of use of extended period of times where the software may not be used for a couple of months. Based on this Jonah would like to see the updates automate on starting the software again.

the scenario of infrequent use of software and how updates can be managed if have not used for several months -Jonah would like to see the updates on starting the software for this. It was also mentioned about the option to view the update page from within insight.

  • To sit in on a lab meeting.
  • Arrange to speak with several of the users on the email list.
  • Arrange meeting with lab manager.
  • Arrange meeting with communications officer.

A further background investigation is required on the specific range of background server-client applications and their steps taken for the update process. The applications are based on the two technologies of osgi and web start. The applications under investigation are:

UPDATE: Experienced several issues in the installs with own laptop so had to use alternative machines.

In addition experienced a problem with ImageJ web start which Josh helped to resolve.
