Description (last modified by rleigh)
System: Windows 7 x64 with JDK 7u51 64-bit.
Downloaded OMERO.insight-5.1.0-m0.1-373-978d6cc-ice35-b140-win-openGL i.e. windows-specific build
Ran OMERO.insight.exe, getting this message:
The JAVA_HOME environment variable does not point to a working 32-bit JDK or JRE".
This was then followed by this message:
The JVM found at JAVA_HOME is damaged. Please reinstall or define EXE4J_JAVA_HOME to point to an installed 32-bit JDK or JRE
then followed by
The JVM could not be started. The maximum heap size (-Xmx) might be too large or an antivirus or firewall tool could block the execution
There are few problems here
- I don't have a 32-bit JDK or JRE
- JAVA_HOME should not be used anymore for starting an application; nowadays it's not added by the installer and there's a registry setting to be used AIUI [I set it explicitly for development; end users won't have it]
- My system is perfectly capable of running Insight, but the launcher exe is actively preventing it.
- There are three error messages where one would do
Running a 64-bit JRE is not exactly uncommon, and I think that this should be supported.
