Users with substantial archived original data in 4.4 could benefit significantly from a script which took the data and turned it into 5.0 filesets. The success of such a script would depend highly on the original data itself, and so this will require significant user input and validation.

API was put into place for 5.0.2 that will enable work on this migration to continue, but a user script is not yet available. An example for how the script will work can be seen at https://github.com/openmicroscopy/openmicroscopy/pull/2503/files#diff-8a3228d361aa90d385439196c91f3a44R213
Pushing to 5.0.3 for further work.

There's still not general consensus on a way to do this. I think it will be more custom work with anyone who's interested in attempting it for their local installation.
