Caused by a mixture of #379 and missing @Transactional( readOnly = true ) annotations in the service documentation (#410). Assigning to me.

r1017 fixes. Leaving open; need to document! (Chris, there may be an issue with getThumbnail when it creates a thumbnail internally. Might need to manually flush. We'll see.)

r1018 and r1019 remove "broken" tags from the tests. Server-side test (r1018) may still have issues until #218 is resolved and the test is refactored.
