Overwriting compressed planes doesn't always work

Reported by: mlinkert Owned by:
Priority: major Milestone: Unscheduled
Component: Bio-Formats Version: OMERO-5.2.0
Keywords: export, external, docs Cc: simon.blanchoud@…
Resources: n.a. Referenced By: n.a.
References: n.a. Remaining Time: n.a.
Sprint: n.a.

Description

If the new plane's compressed size is less than or equal to the old plane's compressed size then it mostly works, though the file size will not change. If the new plane's compressed size is larger, though, the resulting file is either truncated or invalid.

Somewhat related to https://trac.openmicroscopy.org/ome/ticket/4167, as this requires changing the compression settings after calling setId. This is really tricky to do correctly in general, so I'd be fine with this being closed if there is better documentation to state that changing compression settings is not supported.
